No More Hiding

Sometimes, you just reach a place where you've just had enough. No more wasting time trying to persuade the unpersuadeable or convince the unconvinceable of our humanity and our rights. No more "you've got to give 'equal time' to both sides." There is no "both sides" to racism, bigotry and oppression. Also, tick-tock time's up. No more denying that the violent and deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot was a coordinated and orchestrated plot by the twice-impeached, former POTUS Donald J. Trump and key players in his administration to overturn the results of a free and fair election and violently overthrow democracy. And no more pretending that this was not connected to the white backlash to the recent significant electora gains secured in large part by record BIPOC voter turnout, and that despite strenuous bad-faith efforts by the GOP to suppress or cancel those votes. No more performative allyship, such as corporations who financially supported groups and politicians that were connected and or involved in the insurrection, pledging to divest their support, only to increase their support post-01/06/2021. No more curated and memed moments of racial reckoning and social justice protest followed by extended periods of studied indifference, then retraction and return to the racial status quo, as if #GeorgeFloyd deserved to have the knee of white supremacy and state-endorsed lynching on his neck for eight minutes and forty-six seconds, despite his heartbreaking cries for his mother and his painful and callously ignored pleas of "I can't breathe"; as if #JacobBlake should've just complied and he wouldn't have been shot in the back by the police; as if it was perfectly normal behavior for 17 year-old Kyle Rittenhouse to illegally purchase an AR-15 assault rifle, leave his community and be driven for hours by his momma across several state lines to a protest that didn't concern him, where he sought out and violently confronted protestors, shooting two of them dead and seriously wounding a third, an actual paramedic. No more videos of allies crying tears of shame at gross racial injustice followed up with... nothing. No real effort to dismantle white supremacy and racism, or to shift the balance of power in favor of liberating the historically marginalized and discriminated against. No more complicit mainstream media proffering strained narratives of white grievance while little Black girls are targeted for racist harassment and bullying by their white schoolmates and pushed over the edge to commit suicide: No more justices wearing black robes but rendering "whites-only" justice. Nah. Enough is enough! In the words of the oft-quoted but perenially and perilously-unheeded prophetic voice of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:
