The Origin of Sagging (TW)

Just posting this here for those who are interested in knowing the horrific and disgusting origins of males wearing their pants below the hips and exposing themselves/their underwear.

The Cliffnotes version? Saggin' originated in the worst practices of rape, torture and human degradation by debased slaveholders in the process of "breaking" the resistance of their enslaved males. Wonder why there's so much homoeroticism in military and law enforcement settings - male dominance/patriarchy much?

Guys, be better. Do better.  Don't mindlessly follow every trend, be a trendsetter.

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”

The Gate Crashers

“From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force." Matthew 11:12

I'm 50 and people generally look at that age as the beginning of a steady downward decline physically.  Your energy and metabolism is not what it was at 20, 30 or even 40. Those snacks and sweets you enjoyed without worry of gaining a pound before, well, let's just say you'll be surprised how quickly the pounds start adding up!  Or how much more difficult it becomes to shed unwanted pounds.  These changes are a reality of life until our bodies can't go on any more and we die, and there's nothing we can do about that.  But we can still live life to the fullest and put as much quality into life after 50 as ever.  Personally, my goal is be at least as fit if not fitter than I have ever been in life.  I'll just name it being fit after 50.    That's a very ambitious goal, granted; but I figure that if I aim high enough I'l…

The Terrorist Attack at First Baptist Church, Sutherland Springs Texas - Why?

Just some thoughts I posted on yet another senseless violence domestic terrorism attack, this time at First Baptist Church, Sutherland Springs, Texas. #SutherlandSprings #DevinPatrickKelley #domesticterrorism #domesticviolence #guncontrol

The Kingdom Is On His Shoulders

We are part of something much bigger, much larger than us.  And the reward at the end is more than worth the journey to get there!

What shall we say that we have learned about America?  At some point in our educational journey, we have taken courses in civics, government and American history.  We have read the words of her founding fathers and cited the significant founding documents that theoretically make America unique among the nations of the world.
But if we’re paying attention, what we’re taught about America doesn’t square with the stark, barren reality of America.
So I offer up, for serious consideration, conversation, contemplation and critical dialogue, the following seven-stanza free-from verse, “A.M.E.R.I.C.A.DOT.COM”:

America.  What have I learned about America?  First of all let me say that I love America and love being an American citizen.  And because I love America – or at least the promise of America – and presumably an American descended from many generations of my African ancestors who were brought here some 398 years ago today, born here and enslaved here, I reserve the righ…

Symbols of Hatred All Come Down Now!

Symbols are indelibly connected to the ideologies, individuals/institutions and intrinsic history that begat them. Nazi sympathizers and the KKK understand this. Hence they violently protest and even kill to defend the monuments of Confederate figures who rebelled against the Union to violently defend their right to kidnap, rape, abuse, murder and enslave their fellow human beings made in the image of God. Don't be deceived. That's the centuries-long legacy of genocide and hate that they mean by "heritage." Never forget that.

Never forget Heather Heyer, who was senselessly mirdered while trying to protect her country from White supremacist terrorism and neo-fascism.

Never forget that this POTUS, unlike other POTUS's before him, possesses neither the moral authority nor empathy to roundly condemn the despicable acts of domestic terrorism in #Charlottesville. Nor does he have the fortitude to totally disavow and divest his administration of pro-neo-Nazi sympathize…

Turn Your Attention and Focus on Jesus!

"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:  That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life."  John 3:14, 15

With the increasing popularity of the smartphone and other portable digital devices, distracted driving is fast becoming a major cause of traffic accidents and fatalities.  We're paying more attention to talking/texting/websurfing/checking emails while driving, but paying less attention to actually driving and keeping eyes on the road ahead. We can do a much better job of focusing on the main thing.  It is a matter of life and death that get focused and stay focused on the right thing at all times.

Today's devotional thought reminds us that having a singular spiritual focus is a matter of eternal life and death.  Consider this powerful thought from the inspired pen:

Throughout the camp of Israel there were the suffering and the dying who had been wounded by th…

The Governor's Pardon

"For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.  I am crucified with Christ:  nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."  Galatians 2:19, 20

John Henry Smith sat on death row for nearly a quarter century awaiting his execution.  The inmates in regular population, and the prison guards, often referred to John as a "walking dead man" as the date of his death by electric chair drew near.

On the eve of his execution, John ordered and consumed his last meal, a king's feast which consisted of a huge Porterhouse steak; Maine lobster tails; corn on the cob; a baked potato with sour cream and chives, and broccoli spears.  After visiting with Chaplain Hall, John looked over at his favorite prison guard Bobby Ray - a personal friend - who had come to say good-bye and to escort him to the electric chair.

Our Deliverance Even Greater Than The Exodus!

In freeing our souls from the bondage of sin, God has wrought for us a deliverance greater than that of the Hebrews at the Red Sea. Like the Hebrew host, we should praise the Lord with heart and soul and voice for His "wonderful works to the children of men." Those who dwell upon God's great mercies, and are not unmindful of His lesser gifts, will put on the girdle of gladness and make melody in their hearts to the Lord. The daily blessings that we receive from the hand of God, and above all else the death of Jesus to bring happiness and heaven within our reach, should be a theme for constant gratitude. What compassion, what matchless love, has God shown to us, lost sinners, in connecting us with Himself, to be to Him a peculiar treasure! - Patriarchs and Prophets, 288, 289. From Devotional: To Be Like Jesus, p. 13.

A Blind Woman's Prayer

A Blind Woman's Prayer

I read a true testimony here lately about a blind lady who heard the gospel present truth about Jesus Christ and became a devoted follower of Christ.  From that point on, she earnestly desired to read the braille Bible, but her fingers were not sensitive enough to follow the raised print to learn the letters.  Despite her best efforts and the painstaking efforts of her teacher, she could not follow the lettering.  She was very disappointed and wept bitterly over this.

But then something amazing happened.  This dear lady began to earnestly pray to the Lord to make her fingers sensitive enough to read the braille.  She persisted in her petitions to the Lord.  But afterwards she fell very ill.  During the illness her fingers became very sensitive to touch, and she was able to read the braille print!  She was able to read the precious truths of God's word for herself! Glory to God!

Our Savior's Highest Honor (Repost from E.G. White Estate)

This devotional was just so good that I had to share it with you my readers.  I pray that it blesses you the way that I have been blessed by it.  Look upon Jesus our Lord and know that "by his stripes, we are healed." - F.M.

Daily Devotional July 16, 2017 Our Saviour’s Highest HonorAnd one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends. Zech. 13:6.
“I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away.” Revelation 21:1. The fire that consumes the wicked purifies the earth. Every trace of the curse is swept away. . . . One reminder alone remains: Our Redeemer will ever bear the marks of His crucifixion. Upon His wounded head, upon His side, His hands and feet, are the only traces of the cruel work that sin has wrought. Says the prophet, beholding Christ in His glory: “He had bright beams coming out of his side: and there was the hiding of his pow…

Hypocrisy in the Church: Confrontation in Antioch

"When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong.  Before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles.  But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group.  The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray." Galatians 2:11-14, NIV

During the especially volatile racial atmosphere in the southern United States of the 1950s-1960s, a certain man conducted a very bold experiment.  John Howard Griffin, a white male, had his skin and appearance medically altered to appear black.  Then he presented himself as a black man in his social circle and throughout the south to experience what it was like to live as a black man in a racist society.
Griffin's experiment of temporarily living in someone else's skin garnered him an award and some measure of success as a wr…

Unity in the Early Adventist Experience

How shall we search the Scriptures? Shall we drive our stakes of doctrine one after another, and then try to make all Scripture meet our established opinions, or shall we take our ideas and views to the Scriptures, and measure our theories on every side by the Scriptures of truth? Many who read and even teach the Bible, do not comprehend the precious truth they are teaching or studying. Men entertain errors, when the truth is clearly marked out, and if they would but bring their doctrines to the word of God, and not read the word of God in the light of their doctrines, to prove their ideas right, they would not walk in darkness and blindness, or cherish error. Many give the words of Scripture a meaning that suits their own opinions, and they mislead themselves and deceive others by their misinterpretations of God’s word. As we take up the study of God’s word, we should do so with humble hearts. All selfishness, all love of originality, should be laid aside. Long-cherished opinions m…

Some Thoughts on Galatians 1:1-5

Paul, an apostle - sent not from man nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead - and all the brothers with me, To the churches in Galatia:  Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Galatians 1:1-5, NIV

When our church group gathered for the hike along the winding forest trail, we were traveling blind.  We had no idea where the winding path would take us, nor what sights awaited us.  The shadowy canopy of tall poplars and spruces gave us a welcome reprieve from the mid-summer Sabbath afternoon sun as we climbed the steep leading to the open ridge above.

We reached the ridge marking our halfway point of the journey, then stopped for a break.  While there I snapped the photo above of the lonel…

The Last Trump

When the Last Trump sounds loud and long

And the dead saints rise from their slumber

As the planet quivers and convulses with

the mightiest of thunders

The heavens open wide their bowels

revealing a most awesome Wonder;

With every seeing eye transfixed

at the glorious sight

of angels descending

and saints taking flight

Mountains skipping like rocks skipped

across a frosty loch

The Atlantic boiling like a pot

Watched too long, a candle waxed too hot.

The islands lost like Gilligan

without compass or chart,

the nations in distress

at their eternal loss.

"Hide us from the face of Him Who sits upon his throne,

and from the face of His Lamb we did disown!"

They ran to the rocks in shame and disgrace

But the rocks cried out, "There's no hiding place!"

"The great day of His wrath is come, and who shall be able to stand?"

Only those who trusted in the Lamb, and followed his very command.

Before time morphs into eternity,

and your fate eternal set,

the die fo…

A Prayer for Love and Harmony in the World

Dear Lord,

in this world where strife and conflict between brothers is the norm,

teach us how to truly love one another,

and cast out all fear and hate.

In place of ignorance and superstition, help us to value our differences and

learn to listen to perspectives that are different from our own.

Teach us to stand with those who are downtrodden and oppressed,

and fearlessly advocate for the rights of all people.

Teach us how to love and welcome the stranger,

to build bridges and tear down walls.

Help us to fully embrace all that is comprehended in your holy command,

"You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Amen.

Heaven's Laundromat

Have you used Heaven's Laundromat to clean up your life?

Bring your soiled laundry (aka your filthy rags) to Jesus, Who alone can save you and make you totally clean. He will wash away your sins by his blood and clothe you in his righteous white garments, garments that are white as Snow.  By depending on Him and trusting in his grace alone through faith, you will Gain strength of character to resist masterful temptations to roll with the Tide.  Keep the Purex-ample of Christ as your focus as you Surf through the stormy tests that will surely come to try you.  If you falter, don't fret.  Keep the faith, be of good Cheer; you will Bounce back from your Down-y season and emerge victorious over every evil snare.  Just stand still and watch the Lord go to work on your behalf.  Watch Him bare his right Arm and Hammer down every plot of the adversary against you.  He is your All in All!  His love for you is Xtra-ordinary!

Praise God and Encourage Yourself!

I read this today during some quiet time and I knew this was meant for me.  I'm posting it here in the hope that you the reader will be similarly encouraged in your life journey.  I'm praying for you and encourage you to do the same for yourself and for someone else (including me and my family!). God bless you and be with you.

Daily Devotional March 6, 2017 Praise God!I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the Lord, and the praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel. Isa. 63:7. When a sense of the loving-kindness of God is constantly refreshing the soul, it will be revealed in the countenance by an expression of peace and joy. It will be manifest in the words and works. And the generous, holy Spirit of Christ, working upon the heart, will yield in the life a converting influenc…
