Why the Church Lacks Real Power

"Ye adulterers and adulteresses! Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God." James 4:4

I read this insightful commentary on why the church has so little spiritual power today:
"Commenting on the present attitude of professed Christians toward the world, a leading secular journal says: “Insensibly the church has yielded to the spirit of the age, and adapted its forms of worship to modern wants.” “All things, indeed, that help to make religion attractive, the church now employs as its instruments.” (White, 1888). The church, desperate to curry worldly favor and prominence, has lowered Christ's holy standards to make Christianity conform to pop culture. Preachers preach sermons that entertain and delight, but fail to lift up their voices like a trumpet and show the house of Jacob their sins. Every aspect of the church's worship is made to cater to what's the fashion in worldly circles. And id that is not enough, the church has united with government to attempt to use political means to achieve spiritual ends, thereby committing spiritual adultery!

Do we recognize what is happening here? The devil could not destroy the church by persecution. So he joined the church through baptized heathenism and is succeeding in killing it spiritually!

But there is hope for the church of the living God today. Before the Lord comes very soon there will be a revival of primitive godliness in the body of Christ. It won't be like the so-called revivals of today that produce no real repentance from sin and no lasting reform. But this revival will sweep away all worldliness and idolatry out of our pews and pulpits. Worldly conformers will either get right or get gone. The church, no longer divided by the divisive doctrines and commandments of men, and freed from the leaven of idea-olatry, will come out of Babylon and come together on accord under the banner of present truth. The Spirit of God will be poured as on the day of Pentecost and it will be seen that God is among his people. Let us repent and pray for the revival of true godliness in our hearts, homes and churches.

Please support this ministry. Thank you and God bless.
