The Laying On Of Hands And The Baptism Of The Holy Spirit
Acts 8:14-17
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them:only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Have you received the Holy Spirit since you were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins? We should make no assumption that when we were baptized by immersion (under water as the Bible clearly teaches) in Jesus' name, that we were also baptized into the Holy Spirit.
So the question comes, how does a baptized believer in Jesus Christ receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit? We should begin right where Jesus told His disciples to - with asking God for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Luke 11:13 "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children:how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him."
Not taking anything for granted, Jesus again instructed His disciples to pray for the gift of the Holy Ghost. Luke 24:49
"And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you:but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high." After His ascension His disciples did as He commanded. And we see in the book of Acts how marvelously God answered their fervent prayers!
The Lord waits now for you, dear believer in Jesus the Christ, to ask for and receive the gift of His Spirit. Take nothing for granted. Believe and claim His promise, and God our loving Father shall impart the most precious gift of His Spirit, and make you a powerful witness for Christ. Pray with me right now: Our Father, we claim your promise for the gift of the Holy Spirit today, to be effective and efficient witnesses for Christ. Thank you for His presence and power in our hearts. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
